Job Title: Inventory & Fulfillment Assistant (Part-Time)
Reports To: Store Manager / Business Owner
Location: On-site, Portland, Oregon
Job Description: The Inventory & Fulfillment Assistant position is responsible for handling inventory, unpacking and organizing new stock (books), and packing and shipping online orders for customers; orders range from one to 100+ books. This is a low-volume packing specialist and bookstore assistant role that requires attention to detail, efficiency, and organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Unpack and inspect incoming book shipments for accuracy and quality, Update quantities in inventory (using Shopify)

  • Organize books by category and alphabetical on book shelves, for special orders, or in back stock

  • Tracking inventory, removing special orders from inventory and updating records.

  • Communicate with buyer in regards to books needed to complete orders

  • Communicate with store manager to ensure all supplies needed to fulfill orders are in stock

  • Pack orders  following shipping standards.

  • Weigh and measure books and packages to determine proper shipping costs.

  • Prepare orders for shipping from start to finish: 

    • Read orders on Shopify or custom purchase orders, select correct books and correct quantities for orders, pack efficiently and so that books are protected, close boxes with packing tape, purchase and apply correct shipping labels. Contact UPS, USPS, or Direct Transport for pick up.

  • Break down boxes, put in recycling bin, empty trash

  • Occasional cleaning: including bathroom, floors, dusting shelves

  • Occasional customer - facing duties within the book store if needed while other staff are on break. 

  • Prioritizing orders

Needed Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to lift and move boxes of books safely up to 40 lbs.

  • Ability to read in Spanish. 

  • Must be able to alphabetize book titles, discern small differences in book formats (ie, recognize English and Spanish versions of books)

  • Fluency with adding and subtracting whole numbers

  • Open to feedback, willingness to be part of a small team

  • Ability to make phone calls in regards to shipping and delivery (in English) as needed

  • Ability to learn or knowledge of how to use simple mailing and packing machines

  • Comfortable working with digital tools and platforms and ability to learn Shopify online platform, shipping platforms

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

  • Reliable and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Work environment:
Quiet bookstore and small back stock room, with business owner, manager, and other part time employee(s) 

Schedule: 2 days per week, in person, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10:00 - 4:00 with potential for occasional Thursdays.
